Marco Katalay-Kalala has received a sentence of 26 years' imprisonment after being found responsible for the death of Marie Thakizimana, his wife, which occurred on 12 April 2022 in the city of Rennes. The decision was delivered by the assizes of the department following four days of hearings.
The judges particularly emphasised the brutal nature of the act, committed in the presence of the couple's two children, then aged six and eight. The presence of the girls at the time of the events was characterised by the court as a major aggravating factor.
The case, which falls within the pattern of domestic femicides, was examined by the competent jurisdiction in Brittany in order to establish the exact chronology of the events that led to the tragedy.
