Attack on Nelson-Mandela secondary school in Nantes: police absence questioned
According to ouest-france.fr, messages announcing an attack on Nelson-Mandela secondary school were circulating on Snapchat before the incident. Despite these advance warning signals, no police deployment was in place on Thursday, 1 October, shortly before 8 a.m., when a group of masked individuals entered the establishment.
The assailants fired fireworks mortars at a row of bins placed against the school's entrance, located on the Nantes island. Upon the arrival of firefighters, flames had already reached the roof, destroying the reception hall and part of the roof of this recently built establishment.
Investigators from the Organised and Specialised Crime Division (DCOS) are conducting the investigation in conjunction with a fire expert, to establish precisely the circumstances of the incident. The question of the absence of law enforcement officers, when threats had been made public on social media, remains at the heart of the investigation.
