Two eighteen-year-old men, one of them a volunteer firefighter, were examined by magistrates and remanded in custody. They are suspected of having started two fires that destroyed nearly 2,000 hectares of forest.

Two young men aged eighteen have been brought before the courts and remanded in custody, suspected of having caused the disasters that ravaged Fontainebleau forest. Among them is a volunteer firefighter, who allegedly admitted to having set the fire, as well as a student.
The two individuals were charged and imprisoned following their police custody. The investigators hold them responsible for two separate fires that resulted in the destruction of approximately 2,000 hectares of woodland.
One of the suspects, serving with a rescue unit, allegedly confessed to lighting one of the fires. This confession was recorded during questioning conducted by investigative services.
The disaster mobilised significant firefighting resources and sparked widespread national concern. The head of state is to visit the disaster site on the morning of Thursday 16 July to assess the extent of the damage.
