The Fort-de-France court has handed down custodial sentences against four people found in possession of narcotics at Aimé-Césaire Airport.

The Fort-de-France court ruled on Friday 12 June on the fate of four drug couriers arrested at Aimé-Césaire Airport. All have been sent to prison.
Among them was a 38-year-old mother of two living on the mainland. Customs officers apprehended her on 6 June with more than half a kilogram of cocaine. Given her previous convictions, the magistrate imposed two and a half years' imprisonment without suspension, with immediate incarceration. She will be barred from returning to the island for five years.
Two other defendants, both 20-year-old Parisians with clean records, were apprehended two days later with cannabis resin concealed in their suitcases. They received identical sentences: two and a half years, fifteen months of which were suspended, plus a fine of ten thousand euros. They were remanded in custody.
The fourth convicted person is a 21-year-old Martinican. Law enforcement had arrested him on 8 April as he was about to embark for the capital, carrying a briefcase filled with cocaine. He must serve one and a half years' imprisonment, six months of which are suspended, pay six thousand euros to customs, and was also remanded in custody.
