Samir Nasri, a former French international midfielder, was questioned for nearly ten hours as part of an investigation into money laundering and drug trafficking, according to Sport.ro. The former player for Olympique Marseille, Arsenal and Manchester City was released without being charged.
The investigation is examining alleged links between Nasri and individuals suspected of involvement in recycling proceeds from drug trafficking. Investigators are also interested in a nightclub located near Paris, of which Nasri became a shareholder in 2016 with a substantial investment of several hundred thousand euros. Subsequently, the former footballer even became co-owner of the business.
Suspicious financial movements drew the attention of French authorities. Between 2021 and 2023, several cash withdrawals were made, which raised the suspicions of investigating services.
The name of Hakim Berrebouh, nicknamed "le Sanglier", a Marseille drug trafficker incarcerated since 2021, also appears in this case. According to the French press, Nasri allegedly maintained long-standing links with the Berrebouh family, dating back to his childhood spent in Marseille. The two men allegedly met in Dubai in 2020, six years ago.
Nasri, who earned 41 caps for the French national team between 2007 and 2013, had ended his professional career in 2021 at the age of 34, after serving an 18-month suspension for doping from 2018 onwards.
