On Thursday, the former French national team player was held for around ten hours by investigators from the BRIF, the financial unit of the judicial police in the French capital. This is the second time in recent weeks that the retired midfielder has been questioned in this case, following a first questioning at the end of June in Marseille.
The case in which he is named concerns drug trafficking, criminal association and money laundering in an organised crime context. The investigation is targeting two men in particular: Karim Berrebouh, a Marseille drug trafficker who has been behind bars since 2021, and Olivier Sabbah, presented as a key figure in a money-laundering network linked to this illicit trade.
Nasri is being questioned regarding his past involvement in a nightclub in Val-de-Marne. In 2016, he became a shareholder and manager of the "XS" establishment, located in Ivry-sur-Seine. It is this connection that has drawn the attention of the magistrates to the money-laundering aspect of the investigation.
Following his custody period, the man in his forties was released. For now, no charges have been brought against him, although a formal examination can still take place during the proceedings.
In a separate matter, the French Treasury is also looking into his tax situation. The former Gunner is registered as domiciled in Dubai, but the tax authorities believe he actually lived mainly in Paris. Their conviction is based in part on traces of food delivery orders to an address in the capital, according to a recent investigation by Les Échos relayed by DHNET.
