Thirty-two years after the facts, a conviction for quadruple homicide has been quashed. The Court of Review, sitting in Paris, decided on Friday that a new trial would be necessary for Dany Leprince.
In January 1994, four members of the same family died in Thorigné-sur-Dué, a locality situated in eastern Sarthe. The victims were Christian Leprince, his partner Brigitte and their two daughters. All had died from blows inflicted with a butcher's cleaver.
Christian's brother, Dany Leprince, was charged and found guilty in 1997. Since then, he has consistently denied any involvement. A previous request for review had failed fifteen years ago.
In Thorigné-sur-Dué, the news caused a sensation. A regular at the village café, Laurent, discovered the news on his mobile phone. He expressed his astonishment: he did not think he would live to see this day. The man stressed that the quashing of a court decision does not occur without solid grounds.
