Law enforcement in Angers have launched an appeal for vigilance following reports of several telephone fraud cases this week. The victims targeted are mainly elderly people, according to Ouest-France.
The mechanism is well-established. The perpetrators impersonate police officers, claiming that third parties have possession of the contacted person's payment methods. Their ultimate objective is to obtain their interlocutor's banking details.
Last week, eight residents showed discernment and immediately called 17 to report these attempts. Authorities are urging anyone receiving this type of call to hang up immediately and, if necessary, to contact their bank.
Victims can file a complaint with the national police or gendarmerie, go to the nearest police station or gendarmerie station, or lodge a complaint online via the Ma Sécurité platform.
