Arrest and robbery on Place des Halles
According to actu.fr, a 29-year-old man of Albanian origin was tried on Monday 12 October by the criminal court in La Roche-sur-Yon for robbery with violence and attempted escape. The incidents date back to 29 January 2026, on Place des Halles in La Roche-sur-Yon.
The man, named Flamur, accosted a passer-by and attempted to sell him drugs. When refused, he pinned him against the wall before stealing his mobile telephone, an external battery, and a charger. The victim immediately filed a complaint at the police station.
Swift identification and arrest
The city's surveillance cameras enabled law enforcement to quickly identify the suspect thanks to the description provided by the victim. The stolen items were found among the belongings of homeless people camped on the Halles car park.
Flamur was arrested. Heavily intoxicated at the time of his arrest, he was first taken to hospital. There, he was released at the request of medical staff, before fleeing at speed towards the exit. Police officers pursued him, but his escape attempt ended brutally when he violently collided with a glass door.
Acknowledgement of facts in court
Confronted with surveillance footage, Flamur initially denied the accusations, then acknowledged the facts. Before the court, he stated that the alcohol he had consumed that day prevented him from remembering the details, asserting: "I was not really myself." As for his attempted escape, he justified it by the stress he felt.
Flamur apologised to the victim and promised that this would be "the last time" he committed such an act. The defendant, who has lived in France since 2017 with a residence permit valid until 2027, had no dealings with the justice system since 2020. He has two prior convictions on his criminal record: driving without insurance and driving under the influence of drugs.
Verdict
The Public Prosecutor, Fiammetta Esposito, requested six months imprisonment with a suspended sentence, with four months specifically for the violence. The defence emphasised the defendant's family stability and his ties to French territory, highlighting that he supports his partner who is expecting their third child. The court followed the Public Prosecutor's submissions in sentencing Flamur to six months imprisonment with a suspended sentence.
