A secondary school student was injured in the face by a cougar grenade launcher, a device used in riot control, according to information communicated to BFM TV on Monday, 28 September. The shot was fired by a police officer during blockades at school premises.
The General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) was assigned to investigate the circumstances of the firing. A flagrant offence investigation was also opened at the Cergy police station for acts of violence against a holder of public authority, in connection with the same events.
The cougar is a riot control device that uses tear gas or dispersal grenades. Its use during police operations remains regulated and subject to strict frameworks concerning proportionality and the safety of persons present.
