Attack on a Paris elected official during Nuit Blanche 2026
According to tf1info.fr, Paris City Hall announced its intention to file a complaint following the assault on Saturday 6 June in the evening of Alexandra Cordebard, socialist mayor of the 10th arrondissement, during the 25th edition of Nuit Blanche.
Shortly before 7 p.m., far-right integralist activists attempted to block the opening of the Saint-Laurent church, in the 10th arrondissement, where an artwork was scheduled as part of the cultural event. After this first blockade attempt, the collective organised a street prayer outside the building, which is owned by Paris City Hall, before physically attacking the elected official and her team.
"I was jostled along with my team. I personally received blows from these individuals, who wanted to prevent us from entering," Cordebard said on X.
The work in question, Under the Skin of the Sky, by artist Marie-Luce Nadal, was ultimately able to be presented to the public following intervention by law enforcement, according to the municipality.
In its statement, the City affirms that it offers "its full and complete support to the artist" and "reaffirms its commitment to artistic freedom, the plurality of cultural expression and democratic debate". The municipality promises to "protect the world of culture from conservative and reactionary fundamentalisms".
Paris deputy Pouria Amirshahi, for his part, identified the Civitas groupuscule as being responsible for the action. This organisation, officially dissolved by the government in late 2023 and described by the elected official as "far-right integralist antisemitic and homophobic", had called on its members to disrupt this edition of Nuit Blanche. The artistic director of the event is DJ Barbara Butch, who became the target of cyberstalking following her performance at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.
