The Paris Court of Appeal ruled on Tuesday 7 July on the case of the Rassemblement national's European parliamentary assistants. The president of the far-right party received a sentence of three years' imprisonment, two of which are suspended. She is also subject to deprivation of her civil rights for forty-five months.
In addition to these sanctions, she will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device on her wrist for twelve months. This measure would apply even in the event of candidacy in the next presidential election.
This decision follows an initial conviction dating from March 2025, which imposed five years' ineligibility with immediate effect. The appeal court substantially reduced this sanction.
The elected official is being prosecuted for misappropriation of public funds. She had previously stated that she would renounce running as a candidate if she were required to wear an electronic bracelet. In this eventuality, she designated Jordan Bardella, head of the Rassemblement national, as the natural successor to represent the movement.
