The Paris Court of Appeal has upheld the conviction of Marine Le Pen for misappropriation of European public funds, preventing her from running in the 2027 presidential election.

The Paris Court of Appeal upheld on Tuesday afternoon the conviction of Marine Le Pen for misuse of European Union funds. The 57-year-old leader of the Rassemblement National had appealed against a sentence handed down last year.
At first instance, she had been sentenced to a one million euro fine, a suspended prison sentence and a five-year bar from holding public office. This latter measure now prevents her from being a candidate in the 2027 presidential election.
She arrived in the courtroom shortly after 1:15 p.m., making no statement to journalists gathered outside the Palace of Justice. Some reporters had taken up positions as early as 5 a.m. to secure a place.
The judges read out a particularly lengthy ruling concerning Ms Le Pen and the other defendants who had contested their conviction.
