The former candidate for the French presidency saw her conviction confirmed, with the ban on standing as a candidate in any election maintained for a period of five years.
This judicial decision thus prevents the leader of the National Rally from competing in the presidential election scheduled for 2027. The previous year, she had been found guilty of misuse of community funds, receiving a heavy financial penalty, a prison sentence with a suspended portion, as well as this deprivation of her electoral rights.
Marine Le Pen appeared before the magistrates shortly after 1.15 p.m., without uttering a single word to the reporters who had been waiting since early morning for a place inside the courthouse. The delivery of the verdict occurred earlier than originally envisaged. The detailed reasons for the judgment are expected to be set out at length by the court.
