The Moselle assize court has sentenced a 23-year-old man to a sentence of twelve years' imprisonment. The court found him guilty of attempted murder of three passers-by in the streets of Metz.
The incident dates back to 13 February 2023. The defendant then took the wheel of his vehicle and deliberately struck three people who were walking near Legouest hospital. The proceedings centred on the legal classification of the facts, with the magistrates having to decide between attempted murder and aggravated assault.
During his trial, the defendant admitted using his car as a weapon of violence. He claimed, however, that he never intended to cause anyone's death. The jury ultimately upheld the charge of attempted murder.
