Homicide in Yonne: two suspects brought before Auxerre judiciary
A man was discovered dead on Friday 4 September in Brienon-sur-Armançon, a commune in Yonne with just over 3,000 inhabitants, situated around ten kilometres from Migennes. The circumstances of the death remain to be clarified, according to france3-regions.franceinfo.fr, which sent a team to the scene.
Seals were affixed on Monday morning to a property situated on the Quai d'Auxerre. Investigators made rapid progress over the weekend, but many questions remain unanswered: the motive, the exact causes of death and the nature of the links between the victim and the two suspects have not yet been established.
"Two people have been placed in police custody in this matter. Referrals are taking place on Monday, in Auxerre," said a judicial source contacted in the morning.
A murder inquiry was initially opened by the Sens public prosecutor's office, which was handling the departmental duty over the weekend. The file was subsequently transferred to the Auxerre public prosecutor's office, which has territorial jurisdiction in criminal matters. The Republic's prosecutor in Auxerre, Marie-Denise Pichonnier, was unavailable late Monday afternoon to answer journalists' questions.
The investigation has been entrusted to the research brigade of the Sens gendarmerie. The Dijon research section has also been brought in on the matter. The new mayor of Brienon-sur-Armançon, Éric Coursimault, declined to make any statement regarding this matter.
