Suspect arrested in Marseille region following fatal shooting in suburbs of Clermont-Ferrand
A 22-year-old man was charged with murder on Saturday 6 June, following the death of an 18-year-old shot in the head in Cournon-d'Auvergne, according to franceinfo.fr. The suspect, apprehended Thursday in the Marseille region, has already faced multiple convictions. He was placed in custody pending trial, according to a statement from the prosecutor of Clermont-Ferrand, Éric Serfass.
The incident dates back to 22 May, shortly before 4.30 am. Residents who heard gunshots alerted police, who discovered the victim lying in a street in the centre of Cournon-d'Auvergne, struck by a bullet to the head. Resuscitation attempts failed to save the young man, aged 18 and known to the justice system. An automatic pistol and four 9 mm cartridge cases were found at the scene.
"The context of these facts remains to be established," prosecutor Serfass emphasised, noting that investigations are continuing to determine the circumstances of the death and "if necessary, to identify any other perpetrators or accomplices".
Clermont-Ferrand has experienced a wave of violence linked to drug trafficking since 2025, marked by an increase in settling of scores, sometimes fatal.
