Murder in Évreux: alleged accomplice of Mohamed Amra tried at Eure assizes
Jean-Charles Preira, linked to the escape of drug trafficker Mohamed Amra, has been tried since Thursday for the murder of a man in Évreux in 2020.
Trial under heightened security for an associate of Mohamed Amra
According to fr.news.yahoo.com, Jean-Charles Preira, 31, has been appearing since Thursday before the Eure assizes for murder and violence with a weapon. The hearings are set to continue until 11 September, under enhanced security measures.
Preira is accused of having killed, in September 2020 in Évreux, a young man of Chechen origin at the end of a brawl, according to a police source. He is also known as one of the alleged accomplices of Mohamed Amra during his escape at the Incarville toll booth in May 2024.
The accused denies the allegations. A witness has formally identified him and telephone records placed him at the scene, but no DNA evidence allows him to be identified with certainty. He disappeared on the evening of the murder and was not arrested until January 2022, in Spain, on the basis of a European arrest warrant.
Nevertheless, elements link Preira to Mohamed Amra: the drug trafficker's DNA and fingerprints were found in the vehicle used by Preira during his fugitive period.
Originally from Évreux, Jean-Charles Preira is described by a judicial source as undoubtedly belonging to the "upper echelons of organised crime". His name has appeared in several serious crime cases over recent years. In 2023, he was sentenced by the assizes to seven years in prison for the robbery of a cigarette transport lorry in Évreux, committed in 2018.
He is also under investigation for having coordinated, from his cell, the escape of drug trafficker Mohamed Amra at the Incarville toll booth — a commando-style attack that occurred in May 2024.
