A 57-year-old man was charged and remanded in custody on Sunday 17 May for murder, following the death of a 53-year-old man stabbed on Friday in Vals-les-Bains, Ardèche. According to France Info, the victim was found dead on a public road.
Two people had been arrested in connection with the investigation. One was released; the other, the 57-year-old suspect, is now charged with murder.
Transfer of jurisdiction to Avignon public prosecutor's office
The Avignon public prosecutor's office announced on Sunday by statement that "the Privas public prosecutor's office is withdrawing from proceedings in favour of the Avignon public prosecutor's office, investigation division, given the murder charge retained".
This transfer of jurisdiction occurs due to the seriousness of the offences under consideration. The Privas public prosecutor's office had initially taken charge of the case before this withdrawal.
Autopsy planned for early in the week
Investigations are continuing to establish the exact circumstances of the facts. The Avignon public prosecutor's office specifies that "the work of investigators will continue, in particular to determine with precision the exact circumstances of these facts, as well as their context".
An autopsy of the victim's body is to be carried out early next week, according to the public prosecutor's statement.
