According to lepopulaire.fr, a 29-year-old man was fatally stabbed on Friday, 4 September at around 7 p.m. on rue Olivier-de-Serres in Limoges. Transported to Limoges University Hospital, the victim succumbed to his injuries during the night.
Police officers quickly identified and arrested a suspect. The Limoges public prosecutor's office immediately opened a flagrante delicto investigation, entrusted to the territorial crime division (DCT) of Limoges police station. The initial charge—attempted manslaughter—was reclassified as voluntary manslaughter following the victim's death.
Held in custody, the suspect acknowledged his presence at the scene at the time of the incident. He stated that he had a pre-existing dispute with the victim and had struck him several times with a knife after encountering him that evening.
"However, at this stage of the investigation, the exact circumstances of how events unfolded remain to be clarified, pending medico-legal evidence and notably the autopsy of the victim's body," prosecutor Émilie Abrantes stated in a statement.
On Sunday, 6 September, the public prosecutor's office opened a judicial investigation into the charge of voluntary manslaughter. The suspect was presented to the investigating magistrate, remanded for trial, and then remanded in custody in accordance with the public prosecutor's application. Investigations are now continuing under the supervision of the investigating judge.
