In the night between Saturday and Sunday, the body of a 37-year-old man was discovered in Bégard, a town situated between Lannion and Guingamp in Côtes-d'Armor. Gendarmes found the deceased bearing multiple injuries caused by a blade. According to reports by ICI Breizh Izel and confirmed by Ouest-France with the Saint-Brieuc judiciary, one of the wounds had struck the heart.

Shortly after the body was discovered, a 23-year-old man was apprehended by investigators. During his police custody, he admitted to inflicting the fatal blows with a knife.

The public prosecutor's office requested and obtained his committal for trial for intentional homicide. The investigating magistrate moreover decided on his remand in custody pending further proceedings. The defendant is not a first-time offender: his criminal record already includes convictions or prosecutions for acts of violence.

The details surrounding this tragedy — notably the motive and the exact sequence of events — remain for the present under the seal of the investigation, conducted under the authority of the Saint-Brieuc public prosecutor's office.
