Stabbing death in Béthune: investigation opened in Pas-de-Calais
A woman was found dead on Monday 13 July in an apartment located in Béthune, in the Pas-de-Calais department. She had sustained wounds inflicted with a sharp weapon, according to information gathered by franceinfo and ICI Nord from the local judicial authorities.
It was the landlord of the apartment, converted into holiday rental, who discovered the victim. He had been alerted by a relation of the deceased, concerned by her prolonged silence. An investigation for murder with premeditation was immediately opened.
The public prosecutor's representative specified that the body presented wounds caused by a blade. The identity of the deceased remains unknown for the moment. A forensic medical examination is scheduled to establish the exact causes of death.
The SIPJ of Pas-de-Calais, a service dedicated to criminal investigations, has been designated to direct the inquiry. Police officers will notably need to establish whether this apartment was used for prostitution activities, as ICI Nord suggests.
