According to 1ere.franceinfo.fr, the Cayenne Assize Court opened on Monday the trial for the murder of Alicia Faye, a young woman killed during the night of 12 to 13 March 2021. From the first day of hearing, the jurors were confronted with images from the crime scene: a tissue, a half-eaten sandwich and the body of the victim, lying face down on a laterite track.
The investigating officer in charge of the case took the stand to recount the circumstances of the body's discovery and the initial observations made on site. The autopsy revealed two ballistic wounds to the head — an entry wound at the back of the skull and an exit wound at the level of the forehead.
Three accused with distinct profiles
Three people are answering for this murder before the court. The main suspect, Dane Langhorne, is being prosecuted for murder. He is absent from the trial: he fled in 2024 and has since been the subject of a European arrest warrant. His former partner, Kildine Thiam, appears before the court as a free person, prosecuted for aggravated theft. The third accused, Flaviano Makkai, is implicated for complicity in murder.
The three defendants are not unknown to Guyanese courts. In November 2024, they had already been convicted by the lower court in a drug trafficking case.
A financial motive linked to drug trafficking
The investigations reveal that Alicia Faye was part of this same network as a mule, tasked with transporting narcotics. The initial evidence presented at the hearing suggests a motive linked to a financial dispute between several members of the criminal organisation.
The trial is set to continue until Friday 5 June. The proceedings must establish with precision the circumstances of the murder and the share of responsibility of each of the accused in the death of Alicia Faye.
