Murder of Aramburu in Paris: bar altercation footage revealed
Unseen footage of the dispute preceding the death of the former Argentine rugby player was broadcast on TF1. The trial opens on Monday 7 September.
Murder of former Argentine rugby player in Paris: bar sequences before the gunshots
Unpublished surveillance footage showing the altercation that preceded the murder of Federico Martin Aramburu was revealed on Sunday by the programme "Sept à Huit" on TF1, according to rmcsport.bfmtv.com. The former Argentine rugby player was shot multiple times in the back in the streets of Paris on 19 March 2022.
The sequences, captured by the camera on the bar terrace where the dispute broke out, allow the chronology of events to be reconstructed. Four protagonists can be seen: the victim and his friend Shaun Hergarty, seated at a table on the terrace of the establishment, as well as two far-right activists on the street side — the alleged murderer Loïk Le Priol and Romain Bouvier, also cited in the investigation.
Around 6 a.m., tension gradually mounts. Le Priol approaches the table of the two former rugby players and provokes Hergarty by dealing him three light slaps to the face. Aramburu watches without intervening. A security guard steps in and the atmosphere seems to calm down.
Ten minutes later, the Argentine settles his bill and stands up to leave. As he exits the premises, he passes behind Le Priol's chair and grabs his hood, tipping him backwards. Le Priol, furious at having fallen to the ground, attempts to throw punches at his opponent, who backs away. Café staff quickly separate the two men. The two former rugby players then head towards their hotel, whilst Bouvier and his companion are held back by the employees.
According to investigation findings, Le Priol allegedly said: "I'm going to kill him", with a police armband and a weapon in his hand.
The trial for murder and attempted murder is scheduled to open on Monday 7 September and is expected to conclude on 25 September, in order to determine responsibility in the death of Federico Martin Aramburu.
