Aramburú Murder: Le Priol Appeals His 26-Year Sentence
Loïk Le Priol is contesting his conviction for the murder of Argentine rugby player Federico Martín Aramburú, committed in March 2022. A new trial before the appeal court is expected within the year.
Appeal of Loïk Le Priol's Conviction
According to Sud Ouest, Loïk Le Priol announced over the weekend his intention to appeal his conviction to 26 years of criminal imprisonment. The Paris assize court had handed down this sentence on 25 September following three weeks of trial for the murder of Federico Martín Aramburú, a former player for Biarritz Olympique.
The condemned man is found guilty of firing four bullets at the Argentine rugby player on 19 March 2022 in Paris, three of them in the back. During the trial, the court rejected his claim of self-defence and his invocation of post-traumatic stress disorder related to his service in the marine commandos. The court established the intention to commit murder without finding premeditation.
His co-accused Romain Bouvier has also decided to appeal his conviction to 19 years of criminal imprisonment handed down for attempted murder. The two men, far-right activists and former members of the Groupe union défense (GUD), will be retried before the appeal court within approximately one year.
