According to ici.fr, the investigation into "homicide by spouse" opened following the death of Jeanne in early May in Tours reveals that the main suspect had already been convicted of domestic violence in September 2024. The man, aged 26, killed himself in a road accident in the south of France on the same day the young woman's body was found in her flat.
On Sunday 3 May 2026, it was Jeanne's friend, Justine, who discovered her bloodied body at her home. The investigation, initially opened to establish the cause of death, now targets a "homicide by spouse".
Two years in prison in 2024, one of which suspended
In late September 2024, the suspect appeared in immediate appearance proceedings before the court in Angers, in Maine-et-Loire. Aged 24 at the time, he was sentenced to two years in prison, one of which suspended, for having assaulted his girlfriend. According to Jeanne's relatives, the victim at that time had been helped by her neighbours. The convicted man subsequently served his sentence under electronic monitoring in Tours.
Two other cases under way, including one for harassment
The public prosecutor of Tours confirmed he was also implicated in two other cases, including one for harassment in Touraine, which occurred just a few months after his conviction. "We started to feel anger, annoyance and questions when we learned there had been recent complaints filed. We are waiting to find out why there were no follow-ups," said Caroline, one of Jeanne's sisters.
Jeanne and the suspect had known each other for less than a month
Jeanne, a young graphic designer, and the suspect both worked at the l'Heure tranquille shopping centre in the Deux-Lions neighbourhood in Tours. "They were not in a relationship," her relatives stressed, noting that they had known each other for less than a month. Jeanne's family and relatives are now awaiting explanations from the justice system and wish to know whether the suspect has had other victims, beyond the cases of violence already known.
No trial possible
The suspect's death in the road accident prevents any criminal proceedings. There will therefore be no trial. The investigation nonetheless continues to establish all the circumstances of the murder.
