On the neighbouring doorstep, Sophie F. stands motionless, her face buried in her hands. At her feet lies the body of her partner Stéphane R., 47 years old, sprawled in a pool of blood.
According to Le Figaro, which publishes an in-depth investigation before the opening of the trial at the assize court, the violence of the blows was particularly visible on the victim's skull. Purple marks stained the walls of the hallway. In the living room — which opened onto the garden's swimming pool through large windows — the cupboards had been emptied, the furniture overturned.
Disturbing testimonies on the night of the crime
Several neighbours reported details that would feed the investigation. One of them had spotted, around one o'clock in the morning, a black car parked with all lights off on the street, with two silhouettes inside. Another had heard raised voices in the middle of the night.
The initial theory of a burglary gone wrong did not withstand long under the investigators' scrutiny. The apparent disorder of the home was not sufficient to explain the brutality of the beating suffered by Stéphane R.
A trio saturated with hatred
The investigation gradually uncovered a machination of a different nature, orchestrated by three people linked by complex and destructive relationships. According to Le Figaro, the case involves jealousy, adultery, incest and a mother-daughter relationship marked by coercive control.
The 47-year-old entrepreneur found himself at the heart of a sentimental tangle involving a mother, her daughter and a lover common to both women. It was within this triangle that investigators searched — and found — the motives for the crime.
Trial at the assize court to come
