On 4 June, around noon, an 18-year-old teenager was murdered in the street. This chilling death, which occurred at lunchtime, left residents deeply shaken. According to Anne-Lise Céran, deputy elected representative for the neighbourhood, several people simply did not feel emotionally ready to organise the festivities. The entertainment events were to be held at Augustin Fresnel square, a space already burdened by recent violence: another young man had been shot at point-blank range on this same square on 28 April, marking the beginning of a series of bloody incidents in the area.
The decision to postpone the event was made in consultation with local associations and municipal services. The stated objective is to give the neighbourhood time to process the trauma before gathering in a festive setting. The event is now scheduled for Saturday 19 September.
These two homicides within a span of a few weeks illustrate the growing tension prevailing in this part of Nantes, where revenge killings and armed assaults are multiplying, causing concern among residents and local authorities.
