Mexican sentenced in Châteauroux for cocaine trafficking
A 42-year-old man from Mexico was sentenced on 26 June by the Châteauroux court (Indre) for his involvement in a drugs network, according to Le Berry Républicain. He had been apprehended in December 2024 during a customs check.
Customs officers had inspected a coach providing the Paris-Toulouse service and discovered more than one kilogramme of cocaine, accompanied by a geolocation device, in a passenger's suitcase. The investigations allowed them to identify the owner of the luggage, who was then held in custody pending trial.
The investigations revealed that the convicted man had been forced to act under the threat of an individual nicknamed "El Professor". At the hearing, the man in his forties recounted how he had met this man at a party, during which he had incurred a debt to him. He said he had subsequently been subjected to assault and unlawful imprisonment before being sent to Europe with the drug. He claimed to fear for his life if he returned to Mexico.
The court imposed a sentence of three years' imprisonment, accompanied by a ten-year ban from the territory and a customs penalty of 50,000 euros. He has a period of ten days in which to appeal.
