Dismantling of drug trafficking network in Montpellier region

According to midilibre.fr, the narcotics squad of the Montpellier Local Service of Judicial Police dismantled a drug trafficking network following investigations launched on 9 October. A 22-year-old man, living in the La Paillade district, was arrested and placed in provisional custody before being sentenced by the criminal court on 19 October to 18 months in prison with a suspended sentence.

The investigation began with information concerning drug sales activity via social media. Police officers identified the account used and located the suspect. Surveillance confirmed that he was carrying out product deliveries and using an apartment in Grabels, north of Montpellier, as a storage location.

On 14 October, the suspect was arrested on Rue Danton in the Pas du Loup district while he had just sold drugs to a minor. The suspect denied the accusations during questioning, claiming to be merely a drug consumer. However, a search of the Grabels flat revealed damning evidence: 1,460 grammes of cannabis resin, 1,625 grammes of cannabis herb, 35 grammes of cocaine, €2,200 in cash, 22 rounds of 32-20 Winchester calibre ammunition and packaging materials.

Investigators also seized photographic equipment used to promote products online. The apartment had been lent to the trafficker by a cousin who was unaware of his criminal activities. Despite his denials, the Montpellier resident was found guilty of drug trafficking and sentenced accordingly.
