Around fifteen people suspected of involvement in drug trafficking were arrested in the Lyon metropolitan area on the morning of Tuesday, 19 May, according to France Info, which cites a police source.
The operation, intended to last the entire day, mobilises a total of 800 national police officers and 200 military personnel from the national gendarmerie in the Rhône department.
The Rhône prefecture had announced earlier in the morning, in an official statement, that an operation against drug trafficking was "currently underway" in the Lyon metropolitan area and across the entire department. The prefecture specified that "200 targeted control operations" are planned as part of this deployment.
The previous evening, three people had been shot and wounded in the 8th arrondissement of Lyon, two of them seriously, during a shooting. The connection between this incident and the operation on Tuesday morning has not been established in the information communicated by the authorities.
