Drug trafficking discovered following a chance oversight

According to actu.fr, a 29-year-old man has been sentenced to two years' imprisonment for drug trafficking at La Destrousse, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. The case began on 2 September, when he left his bag in a snack bar in the neighbourhood. The discovery of the bag by gendarmes contained 2,000 euros in cash and an identity document — elements that allowed the suspect to be quickly identified.

The investigation led to a search of the man's home. Law enforcement discovered more than 5 kilograms of various narcotic products there: ketamine, crystals potentially corresponding to other synthetic drugs, tablets resembling ecstasy, cocaine and cannabis. The suspect was also cultivating some of these products himself: more than 20 cannabis plants were found on the premises, along with packaging materials.

The investigation revealed the existence of a structured organisation. Gendarmes seized accounting records indicating sale prices, 40 rounds of .22 Long Rifle ammunition and 6,295 euros in cash. All the evidence attests to well-organised trafficking. The man was arrested on 3 September and placed in provisional detention at Baumettes.

The court ultimately convicted him of "unauthorised transport, possession, acquisition and complicity in the supply or transfer of narcotics". He also received a five-year ban on holding or carrying a weapon.
