Parents of 15-month-old twins arrested following their deaths from dehydration in northern France
The parents of two baby girls aged fifteen months have been taken into police custody by French authorities. The babies were discovered dead in their respective beds in the municipality of Beuvrages, located in the department of Nord, near Valenciennes. This information was reported by the AFP news agency, cited by Novinky.cz.
The parents themselves alerted emergency services. According to a source close to the investigation, they stated that they had found the twins dead in their respective beds. Radio station RTL mentions on its website the possibility of negligent care leading to the death of a minor.
Four other children of the couple, aged three, four, five and six years old, were also hospitalised in a state of dehydration. However, their lives are not believed to be in danger, according to media reports.
This tragedy comes as France has been affected in recent days by a wave of extreme heat, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. According to data from the National Public Health Agency (ANSP), nearly one thousand additional deaths have been recorded in France since Wednesday compared to seasonal norms.
The exact circumstances of the death of the two babies are the subject of an ongoing police investigation.
