Paris police forces carried out approximately 1,800 arrests during particularly violent demonstrations that shook the French capital. According to Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, announcing the figures on the X network, authorities are now conducting investigations to identify those responsible and bring them before the courts.

The riots were marked by widespread looting of shops and the burning of a historic town hall. In the streets of Paris, the remains of barricades constructed from bicycles, bins and other objects lay scattered on the ground. Several shop windows were smashed and charred car wrecks were visible.

These disturbances of exceptional intensity occur a few months before elections, increasing pressure on President Emmanuel Macron, whose term is coming to an end. They follow weeks of secondary school student protests also marked by violence.
