The Paris Court of Appeal rules on Tuesday on Marine Le Pen's conviction in the fake assistant case at the European Parliament, which could prevent her from running for the presidency in 2027.

Three judges from the Paris Court of Appeal will deliver their decision on Tuesday 7 July at 1.30pm. This ruling will determine whether the leader of the French far right can participate in the presidential election scheduled for 18 April and 2 May 2027.
The appeal hearing concerns the file on ghost employees within the Strasbourg Parliament. At the initial judgment handed down on 31 March 2025, the defendant received four years' imprisonment, two of which suspended with possible electronic monitoring. She was also hit with a ban on holding elected office for five years, applicable immediately.
During the appeal proceedings, the public prosecutor requested a sentence of four years' imprisonment of which twelve months without suspension, accompanied by the same loss of civil rights as in the first instance.
Before the verdict was announced, the person in question gave an interview to Swiss daily Le Temps. In it she said she was not affected by the wait: according to the newspaper's account of her remarks, she appeared "quite serene", adding that age had brought her a form of wisdom in the face of this legal ordeal.
