A tragic killing cast a shadow over the 18th arrondissement of Paris on the evening of Friday 10 July. A 21-year-old young man lost his life after being struck with multiple knife blows whilst sharing a meal with his partner.

The assault took place around 20:30, according to information reported by Midi Libre. A dispute apparently involved two individuals, the motives for which remain unknown at this stage. The attacker reportedly chased his victim before striking him with a blade, then fled on foot. Despite emergency services' intervention, the young man died at the scene.

A passer-by who witnessed the incident reportedly recognised the attacker and indicated his address to police officers. They went to the address provided, but the flat was unoccupied. Shortly afterwards, members of the BAC apprehended a person suffering from an open mouth wound. The officers then established a stab wound at heart level. The individual was taken to Pompidou hospital and placed in provisional detention as part of police custody.

The Paris public prosecutor's office has assigned a judicial investigation for homicide to the 2nd district of the judicial police. The exact circumstances of the dispute that escalated remain to be established.
