Law enforcement was mobilised on Wednesday 1 July at around 17:00 in the 12th arrondissement of the capital, where an intervention escalated. On Rue de Wattignies, an individual was fatally struck by shots fired by officers, according to RTL.

The alert had been raised for a person displaying disorderly behaviour in a restaurant. The suspect had barricaded herself in the establishment's cellar. When the officers came into contact with her, she struck a police officer with a blade.

An officer then used his regulation firearm, firing eight times and hitting the woman twice. Emergency services were unable to save her. The injured police officer sustained minor injuries.

A representative of the Paris prosecutor's office attended the scene. The precise circumstances of this tragedy will be subject to a thorough investigation.
