Paris: woman shot dead by police after attacking female officer with knife in 12th arrondissement
The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into violence resulting in death following the death of a woman shot by police on Wednesday in the 12th arrondissement.

A tragedy occurred on Wednesday, 1 July in the 12th arrondissement of the capital, where a woman in her forties lost her life following an intervention by law enforcement, according to franceinfo.
The alert was raised around 5 p.m. by a man reporting the concerning behaviour of his ex-partner, aged 48. The latter, who had recently separated from her partner, was being housed in the basements of a food establishment run by her brother. She had that day been released from psychiatric hospitalisation and regularly consumed methamphetamine-type substances.
When officers arrived, the woman took refuge in the cellar. A female police officer who followed her was violently attacked, with the woman in her fifties lunging at her whilst wielding a butcher-type blade. The officer first attempted to neutralise her with her electroshock weapon. Coming to provide backup, her colleague then used her service weapon. Eight cartridge cases were found in the stairwell.
Firefighters called to the scene were unable to resuscitate the victim. Her death was established shortly afterwards. The attacked officer sustained minor bruising, according to the police prefecture.
Two investigations were opened by the Paris prosecutor's office. The first, for "violence resulting in death", was assigned to the IGPN. The second concerns an "attempted homicide against a person holding public authority".
