A pilot for the airline SAS was detained on Wednesday at Nice airport with cocaine in his bloodstream. The middle-aged man received a sentence of ten months' imprisonment suspended, accompanied by a ban on flying over France for one year, according to information from the newspaper Nice-Matin.
The aircraft, arriving from Copenhagen, had just landed on the Côte d'Azur when military personnel from the air transport gendarmerie conducted a random check for alcohol and narcotics. The captain's test came back positive for cocaine, resulting in his immediate placement in police custody.
The following flight, which was due to take new passengers to Stockholm's Arlanda airport, was cancelled following the incident. SAS spokesperson Alexandra Lindgren Kaoukji told the Swedish press that the matter was now in the hands of the authorities and police.
The ban on flying over French territory was imposed for a period of one year by the competent court.
