Cyberattack on tax authority: arrests and questioning following hacking
Two suspects have been arrested in the course of investigations opened following the hacking of the French tax authority website, according to Google News LU FR. One of them, presented as an alleged member of the hacking group known as "Zerobytes", has been questioned and placed in provisional detention.
Investigators are also interested in a profile using the pseudonym "ChatNoir", described as a minor computer hacker who has already been questioned on several occasions. His role in the attack on the tax authority website has not yet been officially clarified.
The French tax administration has apologised to taxpayers whose data was compromised during the intrusion. "I won't beat around the bush, it is unacceptable," said a tax authority official quoted by Ouest-France.
The hacking had targeted the computer systems of the directorate general of public finances, exposing personal information of taxpayers. The investigations, conducted by the competent judicial authorities, are continuing in order to identify all those responsible for this cyberattack.
