Cybercrime specialists have ended the activities of a major unauthorised file-sharing portal. A dozen suspects have been taken into custody.

Investigators from the national gendarmerie, working within their unit dedicated to digital offences, have successfully halted the operations of YggTorrent. This platform ranked among the largest French-language repositories of files shared without the authorisation of rights holders.
The operation took place on 2 July and resulted in the apprehension of twelve people. Furthermore, law enforcement officers seized digital assets and computer equipment valued at €45,000. Financial losses suffered by rights holders amount to tens of millions of euros.
Since its creation in 2017, this service provided access to more than one million items — feature films, television series and other works — by circumventing legitimate offerings. In spring, the servers had already suffered an attack carried out by a hacker who objected to the introduction of a paid option on the portal.
