In the early hours of Tuesday 30 June, a heavy-handed intervention took place in the heart of Pithiviers, in the Loiret department. Investigators from the Orléans judicial police were on the scene to apprehend an individual from the Pithiviers region. The suspect was targeted by a procedure related to illegal weapons trafficking, a matter that had come to light in Roanne, in the Loire.
At the moment when officers were about to carry out the arrest, the suspect managed to flee by getting into a car. It was at this point that the person at the wheel of the vehicle, a woman of about thirty years old, deliberately drove towards the police forces. The vehicle struck two vehicles belonging to the police services.
Directly threatened, one of the officers responded by drawing his regulation weapon. He fired approximately ten times in the direction of the car. The two people inside were not carrying weapons.
Shortly afterwards, the couple was captured in Yèvre-la-Ville, a town located less than ten kilometres from the scene of the incident. The vehicle's tyres had been punctured by the gunfire. The main suspect and his accomplice were taken to Orléans police station and placed in provisional detention as part of custody.
The sector of the outlying area where the gunshots were fired was cordoned off for several hours while authorities secured the area.
