Law enforcement in Occitanie have seized over 2 million euros in cash since January 2025, arising principally from drug trafficking.
Over 2 million euros in cash recovered from drug networks in Occitanie
Since 1 January 2025, police officers and gendarmes in the Occitanie region have seized over 2 million euros in banknotes, coming largely from drug trafficking. This is reported by france3-regions.franceinfo.fr, on the basis of a statement from the Regional Directorate of Public Finances in Occitanie.
The seizures were carried out according to two distinct procedures. During arrests and searches, law enforcement collected 2,070,400 euros in total. Custodial detention also made it possible to recover a further 43,000 euros, bringing the total to over 2.1 million euros for the period.
"A large part of the sums received comes directly from drug trafficking, confirming the importance of this mechanism in the fight against illicit economies," states the Regional Directorate of Public Finances in its statement.
Haute-Garonne represents the most significant share of these seizures: 1,766,400 euros come from this single department, compared with 304,000 euros from other departments in the region.
Once seized, the banknotes are placed under seal before being received by a Public Finances official, responsible for verifying their integrity and validity, then recording them. The sums are subsequently transferred to AGRASC — the Agency for the Management and Recovery of Seized and Confiscated Assets — a public body attached to the Ministry of Justice. The 43,000 euros from custodial detention are paid to the Toulouse Amendes Treasury.
