Drug seizures up 26 per cent around Paris since January 2026
According to Google News FR — Crime (fr), Paris police headquarters announced on Thursday to AFP that 5.2 tonnes of narcotics had been seized in the Paris metropolitan area over the first seven months of 2026, representing a rise of 25.9 per cent compared with the same period in 2025.
The prefecture highlights 339 operations conducted against drug dealing points since the start of the year, compared with 290 over the same period last year, an increase of 17 per cent. In total, 393 prohibitions on appearing in the metropolitan area have been issued, accompanied by 42 shop closures.
Sixty-four notices have furthermore been issued to public and private landlords with a view to rental evictions, the same source specifies.
As a reminder, more than nine tonnes of narcotics had been seized across the entire Paris metropolitan area in 2025, already representing an increase of 29.2 per cent compared with 2024.
Police headquarters affirms that it wishes to "disrupt and make drug traffickers uncomfortable" by deploying a strategy it describes as horizontal — to saturate the terrain with resources — vertical — by mobilising all available administrative measures — and targeted across the entire chain of drug trafficking.
