Military personnel from the investigation unit attached to the Sartène gendarmerie company conducted an operation in Propriano on 8 June. Following this intervention, four suspects were apprehended and placed in provisional detention for the purposes of the investigation.

The Ajaccio prosecutor's office confirmed that a preliminary investigation had been opened for several offences: trafficking in illicit substances, membership of a criminal organisation, and laundering of illegally obtained funds. The four people arrested comprised two males and two females, and were already flagged with police services for prior offences related to drug dealing.

The detentions were extended under the specific provisions applicable to drug offences, allowing for a retention period of up to four full days. Searches carried out at the suspects' homes resulted in the seizure of a certain quantity of cash, though the exact amount was not disclosed.

According to the magistrates, the investigation originated in a separate matter concerning the burning of rubbish containers and a motor vehicle. This parallel case had led investigators to uncover the presence of narcotic substances, opening the way to broader proceedings.

At present, no final decision has been made regarding the continuation of these custody periods. The judicial authorities are primarily considering summoning the defendants to court in the coming months.
