Psychiatrist murdered in Gosier: patient remanded in custody
A psychiatry specialist aged 67 was found dead at the medico-psychological centre in Gosier, Guadeloupe, after sustaining multiple wounds caused by a blade. Caroline Calbo, magistrate and prosecutor of the Republic in Pointe-à-Pitre, validated these details, as reported by 20 Minutes.
The attack took place during morning consultations. The doctor was assaulted by an individual he was treating. Emergency services were unable to save him. Around fifteen medical colleagues, deeply distressed, were present at the facility at the time of the incident.
The suspected perpetrator, a user of the centre, was arrested and is currently being held by law enforcement. According to internal testimony, nothing had suggested such an outburst of violence from him.
The Pointe-à-Pitre prosecutor's office has initiated criminal proceedings for voluntary manslaughter.
The facility in question has a day hospitalisation structure and treats psychiatric conditions. Figures from 2024 indicate that the mental health network for the archipelago now supports more than 12,000 people, representing a 22 per cent increase over five years compared with 2019.
