Autopsies in Gy following the death of four family members in Haute-Saône

According to Google News LU FR, autopsies of the four bodies found on Wednesday evening in Gy, a commune in Haute-Saône located approximately thirty kilometres from Besançon, were carried out on Friday, 4 September. The victims are two boys aged six and ten, their father aged 42 and their maternal grandmother, aged 74.

Gendarmes discovered the bodies of the two adults inside a bungalow where the family was living, pending completion of their neighbouring house under construction. Those of the two children were found in a utility vehicle parked outside.

The prosecutor in Vesoul, Arnaud Grécourt, specified in a statement that the man "had never been convicted for offences against persons". Another judicial source indicated that he had, however, previously been convicted for offences against property.

The hypothesis retained by the public prosecutor is that "the father of the family, pending separation, would have caused the death of the three other people before turning the weapon on himself". According to prosecutor Grécourt, "the two children and the 42-year-old man would have been killed using a hunting rifle". An investigation for voluntary homicide has been opened.

The case of the grandmother remains distinct: according to initial findings, she "was not, apparently, killed by firearm", and the autopsy should allow the exact causes of her death to be determined. The conclusions of the autopsies "will be the subject of a further communication" from the Vesoul public prosecutor's office.

A cousin of the father, identified as Charles Martino-Herter, indicated that the suspect belonged to the Traveller community. According to him, the tragedy occurred when the mother-in-law came to collect the children. "He filmed the scene and sent it to his wife telling her: this is what you deserve", reported Charles Martino-Herter.

The prosecutor confirmed that "investigations, notably concerning digital media seized and exchanges likely to have taken place before or at the time of the events, are ongoing". The mother of the two boys, cared for at the hospital following the tragedy, was able to be heard by investigators from the Vesoul search division.
