Autopsies in Gy: two children shot dead, their grandmother killed with edged weapon

The results of autopsies on four members of the same family, discovered dead on Wednesday 2 September in the municipality of Gy (Haute-Saône), were made public on Saturday 5 September, according to 7sur7 Faits Divers. It was the prosecutor of the Republic of Vesoul, Arnaud Grécourt, who communicated the conclusions in an official statement.

The two children, aged 6 and 10, each died from a single bullet fired "at the back of the torso". According to the medical examiner, the findings suggest a close-range shot.

The 74-year-old woman, maternal grandmother of the two victims, died as a result of "major haemorrhage, following three knife blows to the chest and abdomen", blows inflicted with "great violence", according to prosecutor Grécourt.

The 42-year-old man, father of the two children, was found dead following a firearm shot "inflicted to the chin region, from below upwards". Further analyses have been ordered to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy further.

The case had begun on Wednesday 2 September, when gendarmes from the local brigade of Gy were called to intervene at the family home: the father had himself reported having killed his children. On the scene, the officers discovered in a bungalow located on the property the bodies of the 74-year-old woman and the 42-year-old man. The bodies of the two children were found in a utility vehicle parked nearby.

"The leading hypothesis at this stage of the investigation is that the father of the family, in the process of separation, would have caused the death of the three other people before turning the weapon on himself", stressed prosecutor Grécourt.
