The autopsy results for four members of the same family, including two children, killed in Gy in Haute-Saône, have been released by the Vesoul public prosecutor's office.
Autopsies in Haute-Saône: gunshots and knife wounds at the origin of four deaths
According to BFM TV, the public prosecutor of Vesoul, Arnaud Grécourt, made public on Saturday 5 September the autopsy results of four members of the same family found dead on Wednesday 2 September in the commune of Gy, in Haute-Saône. Among the victims were two children aged 6 and 10.
The two children each died from a single gunshot wound "to the posterior surface of the trunk", the prosecutor specified in a statement. The forensic doctor indicated that his findings "allow for the possibility of a close-range shot".
The 74-year-old woman, identified as the mother of the companion of the man who alerted the gendarmes, died as a result of "a major haemorrhage, resulting from three knife wounds to the thorax and abdomen", inflicted with "great violence", according to Grécourt.
The 42-year-old man died from "a single gunshot wound to the chin region, from bottom to top". Additional analyses were ordered to clarify the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
The events had begun in the evening of 2 September, when gendarmes from the local brigade of Gy were contacted after the father of the family himself reported having killed his children. At the scene, the officers discovered the body of the septuagenarian and that of the 42-year-old man in a bungalow located on the property. The bodies of the two children were found in a utility vehicle parked nearby.
"The leading hypothesis at this stage of the investigation is that the father of the family, in the process of separation, killed the three other people before turning the weapon on himself", prosecutor Grécourt stressed. Investigations are continuing to confirm this scenario.
