Haute-Saône: father shot his sons and stabbed mother-in-law before turning gun on himself
The public prosecutor for Vesoul, Arnaud Grécourt, released the results of the autopsies on Saturday in a statement relayed notably by BFM TV. As reported by La Libre, the findings confirm the theory of a murder-suicide committed by a 42-year-old man, in the process of separating, in a village in Haute-Saône.
Police found the bodies of four members of the same family inside and around a bungalow: those of two boys, aged ten and six, found in a utility vehicle parked outside, and those of the father and mother-in-law, 74 years old, inside the dwelling. It was the man's wife who had raised the alarm herself.
Regarding the two children, Arnaud Grécourt specifies that "the death of both children is directly related to a single firearm shot to each of the children, inflicted to the back of the torso". The forensic doctor further indicates that his findings "make it possible to consider a shot at close range".
The 74-year-old mother-in-law died as a result of "great violence", according to the prosecutor. The autopsy establishes "major haemorrhage, resulting from three knife wounds inflicted to the thorax and abdomen". Grécourt further specifies that "the findings at the level of the neck are highly suggestive of manual strangulation, which may have contributed to death to a lesser extent".
The death of the father, aged 42, is confirmed as a suicide: he died as a result of "a single firearm shot inflicted to the chin region, from bottom to top", according to the terms of the public prosecutor's office statement.
